The Krishna River is the fourth largest river in India and the longest river in Karnataka. This river flows through Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh. The largest city situated on this river is Vijayawada. In the Mahabharata, this river is called Krishnavena. Krishna River is the longest river in Karnataka. The Krishna River basin is spread across the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Its area is about 2.6 lakh square km. To its north is the Balaghat range, in the south and east part there is the Eastern Ghats and in the west, there is the Western Ghats. 

The Krishna River begins to flow from the Western Ghats near Jor Gaon in Satara district of Maharashtra to a height of 1337 m. The river is about 1400 km in length from its inception until it merges into the Bay of Bengal.

About 76% of its basin is agricultural production area. The Krishna River forms about 120 km of delta along its coastline. Later, this delta appears to be joining the Godavari river delta and merges into the sea after 35 km.

Deposits of minerals are found in very high quantities in the Krishna basin and there is a high probability of industrial development. Iron and steel, sugarcane production, vegetable oil production, rice mills, etc. are some of the important industrial activities present in the basin.
